The flyers in this collection offer documentation of two influential hardcore punk bands, Black Flag (1977-1986) and Born Against (1989-1993) both from a different era. Black Flag, a band that played a vital role in shaping the hardcore punk scene through relentless touring, performing in small clubs and obscure towns pushing hardcore punk beyond California and paving the way for bands like Born Against. Who might not have had the legendary status of a Black Flag but were essential in their own right. Exerting lasting influence on hardcore by expanding the genre’s expressive boundaries and inspiring subsequent DIY punk endeavors especially around the thriving scene of ABC NO Rio in NY’s Lower East Side in the 90’s. Both bands perpetuating the group’s legacy of uncompromised, intellectually restless hardcore punk in all its facets.
