Group Show

Intervention
We—Collective P1—are hereby re-opening de sportschool after two and a half years of vacancy. We do so with the group show A LOUD VOICE NEVER DIES, involving new works, recent research and a fresh publication. The program is named after the work of Urok Shirhan, one of the participating artists, and is part of our long-standing practice of (re)claiming territory, engaging with questions that reconfigure the private and the public.

Through various program elements, we examine the gym as architectural heritage (designed in 1928 by the city architect van der Steur, known for the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Maastunnel). A central posture in this project is that the built environment cannot be separated from the social fabric of a city. On the contrary, space is crucial for any collective organization and radical imagination.
The project is both local and international, and is equally relevant and engaging from a national point of view. It targets issues relevant to the arts, society and addresses policy makers on behalf of the communities at the heart of this project.
